Following John Madden’s death on Tuesday, tributes poured in from across the NFL.His fans as well as colleagues have expressed their admiration for this legendary coach, broadcaster, and video game mogul.

Madden Saw Himself as a Coach

Madden, who passed away aged 85 on Tuesday, was always a coach first.

Whenever I am inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, people always ask me if I am a coach, broadcaster, or video game guy.

“I’ve been a coach my whole life.”

During his tenure with the Raiders, he became the youngest head coach in pro football, leading them to victory against the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI and finishing his career with a 103-32-7 record.

His winning percentage is the highest among all coaches who have won at least 100 games.

Madden Known as a Broadcast Icon

During his career, John Madden worked on all four major networks, CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC.

The Madden name became synonymous with pro football thanks to his contributions to Monday Night Football, the annual Madden All-Madden Team, and the Madden NFL video game series, the Raiders said in a statement about his passing.

Over the course of his career, Madden wore many hats.

Following his tenure as a Hall of Fame coach, he moved into broadcasting.

He provided over three decades of weekly NFL coverage with his broadcasts.
