CHIANG RAI – The chairman of Chiang Rai United Mitti Tiyapairat has confirmed his club have reached an agreement to sign Western Sydney Wanderers striker Mark Bridge.
The Australian forward is scheduled to undergo a medical with Chiang Rai on June 13 in the hope of completing his transfer ahead of the second half of the Thai League season.
Speculation about the move has been widely reported since the A-League grand final when Bridge and the Wanderers lost 3-1 to Adelaide United, but Chiang Rai chairman Mitti Tiyapairat first confirmed the deal on Thursday.
“I can confirm that we have a preliminary agreement with Mark Bridge,” Tiyapairat said.
“He’ll come to Thailand and have a medical test on June 13.
“If things go well he’ll be our new player for the second half [of the Thai League] definitely.”
The transfer will bring Bridge’s association with Western Sydney to an end after four years.
The 30-year-old is one of only three foundation players still at the Wanderers alongside captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley and full-back Shannon Cole.
Bridge scored 28 goals in 95 A-League games for the Wanderers, and won the 2012-13 A-League premiership and 2014 AFC Champions League while at the club.
