Is it Time TrueVisions Started Offering Championship Matches?

TrueVisions has been the main television provider for football in Thailand for many years, but its primary focus has always been on the Premier League. While it’s sometimes possible to watch matches from other leagues on Thai TV, it’s clear that most viewers want to see the English top flight.

Now, though, it could be time for the Thai television giant to start broadening its scope. With some major teams dropping down into the Championship, many people in the nation will want to view matches from that division.

Teams With Massive Thai Support Drop Down

The final standings of the 2022-23 Premier League season were completely unprecedented. Not only did all three newly promoted teams stay up, but three well-established top-flight sides dropped down.

Leeds United

Leeds United has a massive following in Thailand, with organized groups meeting to watch the games in some of the country’s biggest

cities.

After spending 16 years outside of the top flight, Marcelo Bielsa took the Whites back to the promised land when he won the

Championship in the 2019-20 campaign. Leeds spent three years in the Premier League. However, due to mismanagement across all levels of the club, they went out with a whimper this season. Leicester City

Leicester City’s fanbase in Thailand grew massively when King Power’s Vichai and Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha bought the club in 2010. This was boosted even more when the Foxes achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 2013-14 season as champions of the second tier.

Two years later, they clinched the Premier League title. Leicester’s support here boomed, and there will be many fans who now want to see how they fare in the Championship.

Thailand TrueVisions Can Boost Football Interest in Other Ways Too

Along with TrueVisions potentially trying to reach a wider audience, Thailand could be doing more to boost interest in football in the country. There’s a huge underground betting scene in the nation that the new government should look to legitimize as soon as possible.

Thailand is one of the world’s most advanced countries in terms of internet infrastructure, but it needs to embrace modern online industries that have had success around the world.

It should take a leaf out of Africa’s book and jump into the online betting industry. This has influenced many people in countries like Zambia, for example, to get online, where they can stake the outcome of football matches. Zambian bet sites with outright markets have odds on the Championship, with Leicester favorites to bounce straight back at around 6/4 at the time of writing.

If Thai people had the chance to wager online, it could boost interest in the sport in the country. With Thailand having never managed to qualify for the World Cup, it’s clear that more needs to be done to grow the sport here.

Unfortunately for all the Thai and ex-pat fans of Leeds and Leicester, it won’t be easy to see their games next season. TrueVisions should look to address this issue and make Championship matches more accessible to people in the kingdom.
