Falcons vs. Jaguars: Tyler Shatley Will Start At Left Guard
(CTN News) – As it appears, the Jacksonville Jaguars are making some changes on the offensive line as they prepare to start the season.
During pre-game warmups, according to multiple reports from London, the Jaguars had veteran offensive lineman Tyler Shatley line up at left guard with the starting offense in order to prepare for the upcoming game.
It has been Shatley’s turn to be a backup for the first three games of the season, with fourth-year guard Ben Bartch getting the start.
Bartch was also the Jaguars’ pick for the starting left guard position following the 2022 training camp, but he was cut short after five starts due to a season-ending knee injury that ended his season before it had even begun.
After Bartch was replaced in the starting lineup by Shatley for the final 14 games of the season, the longest-tenured Jaguar is now expected to return to the starting lineup to replace him.
As a result of Bartch’s PUP status at the beginning of Jaguars training camp, he returned to action toward the end of training camp, winning the left guard job almost immediately after returning.
It still takes a while for Ton [Anton Harrison] to get used to playing at this level and all the different rushes that he is experiencing.
In the past few weeks, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said that Ben [Bartch] has been working his way back into play and has been beat a couple of times.
It seems that Luke [Fortner], Brandon [Scherff] and Walker [Little] are the three most consistent players at the moment. We keep working together.
Ton [Anton] is going to be a really good player for us. He is going to get better the more reps he gets, and Ben is going to get better as well. We are moving in the right direction, but we just need to work on a few things up there.”
I think it’s reassuring that you’ve got a Jaguars veteran guy there who can play in a couple of positions, whether it’s guard or the center,” Pederson said about Shatley.
It has been my experience that he has played a lot of football and he is quite reliable and trustworthy. He is someone that you can certainly trust to be able to go into a game at any time of the day or night. “
