All-American Caleb Swanigan Passed Away
(CTN News) – The story of Caleb Swanigan was repeated over and over again. In the years between 2015 and 2017, Purdue basketball was always on the news. In the end, it wasn’t a bad story, so it wasn’t a problem.
The story was about Caleb Swanigan a young man who grew up in a difficult environment, living in homeless shelters, moving back and forth between Utah and Indiana with a mother trying to keep six children together and a drug-addicted father.
In these awful circumstances, a young man who loved dessert, especially cheesecake, apparently used food as a comfort. Before he even started high school, he had reached 360 pounds. However, something changed after that.
At the age of 13, former Purdue football player Roosevelt Barnes adopted Caleb Swanigan from his older brother and brought him to Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was Barnes’ desire to pass on this drive to young Caleb that enabled him to excel both on and off the field.
For Swanigan, football was not the game he played like his adopted father. He played basketball instead. He had something to his game despite being over 300 pounds. Swanigan’s life could be changed by something Barnes saw.
