Ashleigh Barty

Ashleigh Barty defeated United States’ Danielle Collins in the 2022 Australian Open women’s singles final, 6-3, 77-62. This was a hard-fought final between two highly motivated players who gave it their all to win the first Grand Slam of the year. Barty, however, fought off Collins’ comeback to win the trophy. In winning the Australian Open, Barty became the first Australian to do so in 44 years.

While Barty entered the Australian Open as the favorite and the No. 1 seed, he had to beat some tough opponents along the way. Even so, she did not lose a single set throughout the tournament. Collins, on the other hand, entered the tournament as the 27th seed, but she did not let that stop her. She managed to win over the crowd in every game she played and defeated some very difficult opponents in Elise Mertens and Iga Swiatek.

Ashleigh Barty vs Collins: Ash holds her nerve to win the Australian Open women’s singles final

Ashleigh Barty did an admirable job starting the final and grabbing the break in the first set when she went 4-2 up. Collins also tried her best to hold on by making it 5-3, but Barty skillfully won the ninth game and took the first set 6-3. However, Collins did phenomenally well in the second set to grab a break early on and take a 2-0 lead. The second set was even more impressive as she grabbed a huge second break to lead 5-1. Unfortunately, Barty did not hold back and went all out. It was superb of her to win the next game and get the break back, and then again at 5-4 to win the break. She led 5-5 in the set and easily won the tiebreaker.

Danielle Collins hit just one ace during her service. On the other hand, Ash Barty had an excellent service game as she hit 10 aces in the final. Barty won 44 service points compared to Collins’ 37, even when it came to service points. Ashleigh Barty is very happy after winning the Australian Open and strengthening her position as the No. 1 WTA player.
