Anthony Rizzo Agrees To New 2-Year, $32 Million Contract With Yankees
The New York Yankees’ Anthony Rizzo has reportedly agreed on a two-year deal, worth around USD 32 million, on Tuesday night. The Associated Press reported that a person familiar with the negotiations informed about the deal and revealed its condition of anonymity since the agreement is subject to a successful physical examination. In July last year, the Yankees acquired him from the Chicago Cubs, where he spent a decade.
Last season, Anthony Rizzo with the Yankees, who were heavily dominated by the right-handed batting order, hit .248 with 22 home runs, 61 RBIs, and a .783 OPS. Meanwhile, New York may no longer be in the running to sign a free agent and former Braves All-Star Freddie Freeman. AP reports that the Yankees have lost interest in the 2020 NL MVP and are uncertain of first baseman Luke Voit’s return.
Anthony Rizzo’s journey in baseball-
Anthony Rizzo was an All-Star and Golden Glove winner with the Cubs, earning MVP votes five consecutive seasons. His numbers dropped in the last two seasons and he was traded to New York. His season got off to a hot start, but he missed the second half because of the Covid-19 virus. Last season, his OPS was .783, his lowest since 2013. In spite of the fact that he might not be an MVP caliber player again, Anthony Rizzo is still a reliable left-handed bat.
