Aggressive Rams Well Placed for another Super Bowl Charge

The Los Angeles Rams validated their system of aggressive trades by winning Super Bowl LVI with a narrow victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium. The Rams spent significant amounts of draft capital to trade for the services of Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions, sending two first-round picks and quarterback Jared Goff to the NFC North outfit.

Los Angeles had previously made a splash move to acquire All-Pro Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars and during the middle of the 2021 season made a further bold choice to secure a deal for outstanding linebacker Von Miller from the Denver Broncos. The signing of Odell Beckham Jr as a free agent following his release was seen as a risk, but the wideout was an excellent pickup during the campaign.

General manager Les Snead made a significant gamble with the moves, relying on head coach Sean McVay and his staff to get the most out of their star talent. It bore fruit on the main stage as Stafford drove his team down the field in the fourth quarter before connecting with Cooper Kupp for the game-winning touchdown. It was validation for Snead and his bold approach in the front office, and redemption for McVay after the Rams were humbled by the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII, mustering only three points against Bill Belichick’s defense.

Based on the talent remaining on their roster after their triumph, the Rams are in an excellent position to attempt to become the first team since the 2004 Patriots to win back-to-back titles. Part of that reason is because the road to the NFC title game appears to be wide open due to the retirement of Tom Brady, leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without a quarterback. Unsurprisingly, the AFC are expected to win the next Super Bowl in the sports betting (スポーツベッティング) with odds of 10/13 to reclaim the title as the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills look primed to make a deep run.

Aaron Rodgers is also reportedly on the way out of the Green Bay Packers, who are unlikely to trade him to a rival in the same conference. The San Francisco 49ers are ready to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo after his struggles in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game. Looking at the NFC on paper, their biggest rivals could be the Dallas Cowboys out of the NFC East, but they have struggled immensely in the playoffs and crashed out once more at the first hurdle in the 2021 season.

Not only do the Rams have the advantage in talent, but the issues of their rivals will leave a potentially smooth road back to contention for the Vince Lombardi Trophy for McVay and his team. Stafford still has plenty of seasons ahead of him and Kupp is operating at the peak of his powers, while Robert Woods will return to the fold after he was ruled out for the second half of the term. Should Beckham re-sign with Los Angeles, which could be likely after his ACL tear in the Super Bowl, then the Rams’ offense will be loaded and ready to make another run.

Three-time defensive player of the year Aaron Donald refused to commit to another campaign, but he is only 30 and would surely want a chance to forge a potential Rams’ dynasty. Ramsey is not going anywhere, and there remains enough talent on the defense which will no doubt be bolstered by the moves of Snead in the off-season to prepare Los Angeles for the defence of their crown. All signs point to another good season in Los Angeles in 2022.
