CHON BURI – A 27 Year-old Russian national wanted in his homeland on a major drug charge has been arrested in Bang Lamung district, where he has been in hiding for over three years.
Pol Lt Col Tawatchai Nongbua, deputy chief of Chon Buri immigration police, identified the man as Dmitry Filipsin, 27.
He said immigration police launched a hunt for the man after receiving an Interpol red notice advising he was wanted on an arrest warrant issued in Russia.
They learned that Mr Filipsin lived in a house in tambon Huay Yai of Bang Lamung district with his Russian wife.
When the police arrived at his house on Sunday, only his wife came out to see them. Â After about an hour of talks, a man emerged from a room and showed a Ukraine passport which identified him as a Ukrainian national with the name of another person.
Immigration police checked with the Ukrainian consulate, which said it was a counterfeit passport.
Pol Lt Col Tawatchai said Mr Filipsin tried to resist arrest, saying he held dual nationalities, but his claim failed to convince police.
He was initially charged with having in his possession and using a fake passport and would be held pending legal proceedings.
