Minecraft Color Codes | The Ultimate Guide

In Minecraft, customization plays a significant role. There’s no doubt that any Minecraft player would agree with that statement.

In terms of fun, the vanilla game is amazing as is, but its freedom to explore with little to no limitations is what keeps players returning.

Mods and servers for Minecraft have been covered. In this article, we’ll look at something a little easier (but just as rewarding) to perform customization of Minecraft color codes.

Here we go!

What is Minecraft Color Codes?

Using Minecraft Color Codes and Minecraft Formatting Codes, Minecraft players can customize certain textual elements.

For example, the former allows players to change text colors in-game. In addition, it can be used to change dyed leather armor colors or assign colors to different teams.

Creating colored signs using these color codes or adding color to server messages is possible. This feature is possible to format text in-game, such as making announcements bold or italic.

How to Use Minecraft Color Codes?

To edit Minecraft text, use the Section Sign (§) followed by a Hex Digit. Each hex digit represents a different color and is assigned a hex code.

An example is that the code §0 would result in the color black.

Meanwhile, code §6 would result in the color gold.

Take Note: Text formatting and text color formatting may make sense in terms of visual modification, but they are viewed differently by the game.

Minecraft’s Java Edition disables formatting codes beyond a color code point if a color code is used after a formatting code. This can be visualized by writing the codes as follows:

The font for the text is: Arial, color: green, size: 12pt, bold | Color Text: black

… would cancel out the text formatting after the color indicator. Consequently, the text will not be bolded and sized 12.

The color code should always be typed before the formatting code when using a color code. This would look as follows in textual visualization:

Color Text: green | Format Text font: Arial, size: 12pt, bold

If you’re using the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, you don’t have to worry about this. Even when typed after a color code, formatting codes persist in Bedrock.

Colored Text for Minecraft Server Messages

The Message of the Day (MOTD) on your Minecraft server can be customized by inserting a color code before it.

It’s just like changing the color in Minecraft. There is only a difference in the codes.

The color can be changed by accessing your Server Properties or Server Files as normal.

The color code should be inserted before the message.

Ex. §6 “Welcome Back to the Server”!

Once you’ve made the changes, save them, close your server, and restart it. If everything is done correctly, the MOTD should appear in the correct color – which, in our example, should be gold.

For the Minecraft Server’s MOTD, here are the Minecraft Color Codes:

§0 – BLACK

§1 – DARK BLUE

§2 – DARK GREEN

§3 – DARK AQUA

§4 – DARK RED

§5 – DARK PURPLE

§6 – GOLD

§7 – GRAY

§8 – DARK GRAY

§9 – INDIGO

§a – GREEN

§b – AQUA

§c – RED

§d – PINK

§e – YELLOW

§f – WHITE

Why Use Minecraft Color Codes?

Minecraft Colour Codes and Minecraft Formatting Codes are many ways that it allows its players to customize their games.

It is possible that changing text does not directly affect gameplay by imposing advantages (or disadvantages, even). People can, however, enjoy the game even more because of it.

Modification and customization have always played a significant role in the Minecraft experience, as we mentioned in the beginning.

It turns out that Minecraft mods have a pretty large market (although we don’t use that term strictly since most Minecraft mods are free).

Conclusion:

In addition to learning Minecraft color codes, players can spice up their game in several different ways.

If viewed in the context of learning to code for kids, the game can provide an introduction to hexadecimal codes and coloring that can be used to program using HTML or CSS later on.
