Two College Girls Killed, Three Others Injured in Horrific Car Crash in Northern Thailand

LAMPANG – Two college girl in this northern province were killed and three others injured when their car crashed into roadside trees and then plunged into a ditch in the northern province of Lampang on Sunday.

The tragic accident occurred at approximately 2 am when the Honda city they were travelling in slid off Phahon Yothin highway at Ban Mon Khao Kaeo in tambon Phichai before ramming into two roadside trees. The vehicle overturned and plunged into a water filled ditch.

When Police, rescue workers and doctors arrived at the scene they found the two college students dead in the front seats. They were identified as Chamaiporn Putthawong, 22, the driver, and Pakinee Singkaeo, 22.

Three other college girls (all 22) were found in the back seat of the Honda city, they were identified only as Wanthana, Thanya and Panida, all 22 were injured but alive.

A man who witnessed the accident and called police for help said the Honda City was driving in front of his car at high speed, probably over 100 kilometers per hour, before swerving to the left, ramming into two trees and plunging into the ditch.

According to a police investigation, the five young women were students at a vocational college in Lampang. They were returning from a party to a dormitory in Muang district.

Meanwhile, a 37 year-old man and his 7-year-old daughter were killed and wife injured after the articulated lorry he was driving rammed into the rear of another tractor-trailer in the eastern province of Prachin Buri.

Pol Capt Tipol Waskhoksung,that the lorry was heading down a hill when its brakes failed and it rammed into the back of another lorry and then overturned.

The driver, identified as Preecha Chuahom, 36, and his 7-year-old daughter Jirawan Srirasa were killed. His wife, Arunee Srirasa, 40, was injured and admitted to Nadi Hospital.

 

According to the Bangkok Post Ms Arunee said the lorry driven by her husband was heading from Nakhon Ratchasima to Laem Chabang seaport in Chon Buri province.

She was asleep, she said, but was awoken by her husband saying the brakes had failed and he was unable to control the vehicle.

She lost consciousness in the crash and regained it while being rushed to the hospital.

The road between Nadi and Kabin Buri districts on Highway 304 is a hotspot for serious accidents involving lorries and buses, most from brake failures while running downhill.
