21 Year-Old Woman Dead After Being Run Over By Fire Truck

On Wednesday morning, a fire truck struck a motorcycle riding by a local university student at an intersection in Hat Yai city, killing her instantly.

Police officer Pol Lt Col Somkiat Kamsuwan said the accident happened at about 9 am at an intersection near the Public Relations Office Region 6 on Nipat Songkroh road.

The Mitrapap Samakkhi Foundation rescue team was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found Miss Cholthicha Singprom, 21, lying dead near her damaged motorcycle. The Hat Yai Municipality fire truck ran her over and crushed her head.

Supachai Srikhlam, 44, the driver of the fire engine, awaited for the police to arrive.

The man said he was traveling to Jiranakhon Sports Stadium for a fire drill. At the intersection, he intended to take a left turn. In his side mirror, he noticed a motorcycle on his left side.

The collision occurred as he turned. As a result, the motorcycle crashed and the girl was run over by the fire truck.

Police said the fire truck driver would be charged.

In other Hat Yai news, a former German navy marine died after falling from the roof of an apartment building.

A duty police officer said the man died after falling from a six-story building on Nipat Songkroh 5 road in Hat Yai Municipality at about 8.30 am.

The scene was attended by police and rescue workers. At the side of the apartment building, they discovered Klaus-Dieter Buchholz, 81, dead on the road.

An investigation revealed the man lived alone on the third floor of the apartment for several years and was a German former marine.

In the early morning hours, the German man walked up to the sixth-floor rooftop and shortly thereafter fell to his death. His body was recorded landing on the road by a CCTV security camera.

No evidence of prior violence was found on the body, according to Hat Yai Police.

The body was sent to Hat Yai Hospital for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the Hat Yai police will continue to investigate.
