Our top three most interesting French cities to visit are:
Paris
Paris is famous for its fashion, food, art, perfumery, and of course, the Eiffel Tower. This engineering marvel, with its great views over the city, is a must-see.
Paris hosts the spectacular Paris International Air Show in June and the French Open, a Grand Slam tennis tournament, in late May. But if fashion is your passion, visit Paris Fashion Week or shop at the designer stores and trendy boutiques in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré district.
Don’t leave without taking a scenic boat trip on the Seine River or visiting the Louvre Museum. This former royal palace houses 11,000 years of art, including the Mona Lisa.
While Charles De Gaulle International Airport is 14 miles away, by private jet you can fly to closer airports such as Le Bourget, Issy Les Moulineaux, and Orly.
Bordeaux
Sitting in France’s scenic south-west, Bordeaux offers sunlit vineyards, good food, culture, and beautiful countryside (and it’s on the Tour de France route in 2023).
Sample the city’s world-famous wines on a vineyard tour (or two!) and visit Cité du Vin, the cultural center dedicated to wine, where your tour ends with a wine-tasting session on its 115-feet-high platform. Enjoy wonderful views as you sip.
Bordeaux also has numerous historical sites to explore, such as the Pey-Berland Tower or the Grand-Théâtre, and grand chateaux and traditional French villages nearby. Don’t leave without taking pictures at Bordeaux’s most-photographed site: the Mirroir d’Eau. This lovely water-feature perfectly reflects the beautiful 18th-century facades that surround it.
By private jet, you can land at Bordeaux’s own Merignac Airport, but you have other options including Artigues De Lussac Airport, 24 miles away.
Lyon
Lyon lies in the Rhône-Alpes region. It’s famous for its silk-making heritage, high-quality cuisine, amazing architecture, and Festival of Lights. Visit around December 8th to catch this 4-day event, which illuminates the city every year.
Lyon is rich in history, from Roman ruins to stunning Renaissance palaces. Thread your way through the ‘traboules’: secret, narrow covered passageways, some dating back to the 4th century. Don’t miss the beautiful Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière and Lyon Cathedral.
Be sure to try traditional Lyonnaise cuisine, such as duck pâté, or one of Lyon’s Michelin-starred restaurants. They include Takao Takano, with its highly creative yet simple menu.
Lyon’s has two international airports: Bron, 5 miles from downtown, and Saint Exupery about 10 miles away. Private jets can also use Tarare Airport, 14 miles away in Villefranche.
