Symantec Corp will help establish a national cyber security system.

CHIANGRAI TIMES – Thailand’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, its body- The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) and Thailand Computer Emergency Response Team (ThaiCert), in cooperation with Symantec Corp will establish a national cyber security system.

A memorandum of cooperation (MoC) was signed last week in an attempt to tackling Internet-borne malicious threats and provide a safer online environment for Thai citizens

The move will also boost Thailand’s ability to build a safe environment on the internet

Permanent Secretary of ICT Ministry Mrs Jeerawan Boonperm said the MoC was signed to create a system that does not only protect online users but also analyze threats and identify their whereabouts.

“The new technology would significantly assure safety for online banking for people and businesses,” she said.

The popularity of online transactions, she said, is expected to increase in terms of both value and services once the security system is up and running.

According to her, the move will also boost Thailand’s ability to build a safe environment on the internet and deal with any types of cyber crime. Any threats detected will be useful for Thailand to become better prepared to combat them in the future.

A digital threat monitoring system will be established and operated to monitor and analyze threats within the network.

The MoC will enable ETDA to leverage Symantec’s Attack Quarantine System (AQS) Program, an automated honeypot network designed to gather intelligence on Internet threat data. ETDA will receive weekly reports by Symantec indicating the amount of malwares detected; their threat profiles and recommend solutions to remove those threats.

“We are confident this collaboration will help us gain better control over the cyber threat landscape and better address the risks of rising cyber threats and cybercrime to create a safer online environment for all,” said Mrs. Surangkana Wayuparb, Executive Director of ETDA.
