Thailand Ends Fit to Fly Covid-19 PCR Test Requirement

The Government of Thailand on Friday announced that it would discontinue the requirement that visitors pass a fit to fly Covid-19 Coronavirus PCR test prior to travel. However, testing on arrival for all international passengers will continue.

The change in fit to fly procedure was announced by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin.

He said all visitors, regardless of whether they arrive through Test & Go, Sandbox, or quarantine channels, would no longer need to undergo a pre-travel test.

Travelers entering the Kingdon under the Test & Go and Sandbox programs will receive an RT-test upon arrival and will be required to perform an antigen self-test at their hotel five days after arrival.

The Sandbox visitors would be confined to their reception areas for five days. Visitors under the quarantine scheme, including individuals caught sneaking into the Kingdom, would be isolated for five days and have a PCR test on day 4 or 5 after arrival.

Dr. Taweesilp said the CCSA would continue to require visitors to carry Coronavirus insurance coverage of at least US$20,000, but he expected a reduction later.

Also, starting April 1, people will be able to travel by land through Satun, in addition to Nong Khai, Udon Thani, and Songkhla. A Real Time PCR Test will also be required upon entry.

Additionally to the current Phuket and Chon Buri ports, Surat Thani would be able to accept arrivals by sea.

In addition to Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Chiang Mai, and U-tapao airports, the reopening would also include Hat Yai airport.

Dr. Taweesilp said the CCSA hoped to open all airports by air, pending their readiness, in May.
