Phuket Police Charge 3 Foreigners Over Death of Russian Model

Police on Thailand’s resort island of Phuket charged three foreign Nationals with recklessness causing death after a 37-year-old Russian woman plunged to her death from a high-rise condo in the Patong district.

Police said on Wednesday that American Jamaal Smith, 38, Jordanian Ahmad Alatoom, 28, and Russian Natalia Kosenkova, 35, have been charged.

The charges come after, Ms. Evgenia Smirnova, 37, fell to her death from the eighth floor of a condominium on May 31 in Phuket’s Patong district

Police said Ms.Smirnova was extremely drunk while in the company of three other foreigners at the high-rise condo.

The three foreigners told Phuket police that Ms.Smirnova climbed an outside staircase between the seventh and eighth floors, while intoxicated. An autopsy found a very high alcohol level in her blood, Police said.

Police said that after reviewing existing evidence and witnesses’ accounts they believed all four foreigners had behaved recklessly. The three were also charged with possession of marijuana on top of recklessness causing death.

A police source told CTN News that investigators had not concluded their investigation and were collecting more evidence in the case. The source said investigators were looking for any sign of a dispute or physical assault among the foreigners.

Ms. Evgeniia arrived in Phuket in April and had traveled from and from the island repeatedly according to Immigration police. Evgenia was an adult webcam model who streamed X-rated content up until shortly before her death.

Smirnova was originally from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, and moved to Moscow where she left for Phuket on May 25.
