Marcinko Seen as a Rogue Operator in today’s Military

According to the Times, he is seen as a rogue operator in today’s military. According to the SEAL Museum, an independent organization unaffiliated with the US military, he is also considered a “premier counterterrorism operator.”
According to the museum, Demo Dick led SEAL Team Six between August 1980 and July 1983.

The Navy at the time had only two SEAL Teams, so Marcinko named the unit ‘SEAL Team SIX’ so others, including the Soviet Union, thought that the United States had at least three more, the museum said, adding that Marcinko “hand-selected the Team’s members from the existing SEAL Teams and Underwater Demolition Teams.”
