Real Madrid Defeats PSG To Qualify For The Champions League Quarterfinals

Defending champions Real Madrid have a rich history in the Champions League, and this most recent encounter was certainly one to remember in Europe’s premier club competition, as they clinched a stunning 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain during their most recent match.

As the star man at the Santiago Bernabeu, Karim Benzema scored his third of the season as he netted a hat-trick for Real Madrid, but impressive displays were put in all over the pitch as Carlo Ancelotti’s side staged a stirring second-half fightback in the Spanish capital that enabled them to advance to the quarter-finals.

Almost unsurprisingly, Real Madrid employees and players gathered behind the scenes to celebrate the win, and veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modric took center stage during the celebration, taking time to savor the moment with each of his counterparts and jubilant members of the backroom staff.

What happened in the game?

After trailing 1-0 on aggregate heading into the return leg of a last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain on the second leg of the tie, Real Madrid fell further behind when Kylian Mbappe scored his second goal of the tie.

Ancelotti’s side was in search of inspiration and found it shortly after the hour mark when Benzema forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into a mistake and gave the Blancos a lifeline.

Despite being in the mood to blow it up at that point, the 34-year-old Frenchman turned a heavyweight contest the other way when grabbing a quick-fire double that completed a 17-minute hat-trick.

In the meantime, Real Madrid will remain in the competition to compete for the last eight honors while it is back to the drawing board for Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar, and the expensively assembled cast of superstars in Paris.
