Police Test Blood and DNA of Actress Nida’s 5 Boat Companions
Police in Bangkok are said to be investigating a companion of the late TV actress Nida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong who had a scratch and bruises on her arm.
On Tuesday, senior police held a press conference at the Nonthaburi city police station to discuss the progress of their investigation into the death of Nida, 37, last Thursday night.
Police forensic examiners have found a substantial cut on the thigh of the late TV actress, as well as scratches on her body.
Col. Napaphat Natthasumon from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital also confirmed that Nida drowned because of mud in her lungs.
Forensic examiners found a large cut on her right thigh but had not yet confirmed that it was caused by a boat propeller.
Col. Napaphat also said there were also small scratches on her left leg, but the police have not yet determined what caused them.
Police awaiting test results
She said that boat companion Nitas Kiratisoothisathorn had a scratch on his arm and a bruise on his shoulder. The scratch was allegedly bigger than a fingernail scratch and the alleged bruise was caused by an impact with a rough object.
Investigators said they do not believe both were caused by a physical altercation and that they were five to seven days old.
The Scientific Crime Detection Center, headed by Maj Gen Chutima Chaimusik, estimates they would know in three to four days if there were any traces of urine on the rear of the speedboat or on Tangmo’s bodysuit.
Nida allegedly fell off the boat while relieving herself at the boat’s rear, according to her boat companions.
Maj Gen Chutima said forensic examiners found no traces of narcotics aboard the boat.
Tangmo’s five speedboat companions were not examined instantly as they had to wait for their consent first, said Pol Lt Gen Jiraphat Phumjit, the commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 1 that covers Nonthaburi.
According to him, they were treated as witnesses rather than suspects.
The police were awaiting the results of their blood tests and DNA tests would be conducted as well, he said.
On Thursday, around 10.40 pm, Nida fell off the speedboat into Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. It wasn’t until 1 pm on Saturday that her body was found.
Authorities have already charged two of her boat companions with negligence causing death.
