Police Seized 16 Kilos of Crystal Meth Destined for New Zealand
Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Police have seized 16 kilograms of crystal meth destined for New Zealand and arrested four alleged transnational drug smugglers in northeastern Thailand.
The four suspects were apprehended at the Love resort in Nong Khai province on Tuesday. Thirty two packages of crystal meth weighing about 16 kilograms were seized, as well as four mobile phones.
They were arrested after Narcotics Suppression Bureau officers seized two parcels containing illicit drugs that were being sent to Australia.
In Chiang Mai province, a parcel containing three bars of compressed heroin, totaling 14 kilograms, was seized on Aug 30. Drugs were being sent to Australia in containers labeled whitening body lotion.
The Narcotics Suppression Bureau said the parcel containing the drugs was detected at a DHL branch in Chiang Mai.
Another parcel containing three bars of compressed heroin weighing 14 kilograms was found in jars labelled hair treatment cream on Sept 3. This parcel was also destined for Australia and was also detected at the same DHL branch in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
According to NSB investigators, the two parcels were sent by 21-year-old Mr Nawiboon Khenkham.
After conducting surveillance on him, police officers learned he planned to send another shipment.
His whereabouts were traced to the Love resort in Nong Khai province, where he was arrested on Sept 13 along with three alleged gang members.
Sixteen kilograms of crystal meth was found in their room. The drugs were being inserted into 32 large jars labelled hair treatment cream, an NSB spokesperson said.
Police charged them for having crystal methamphetamine in their possession, a category 1 drug.
According to a reliable police source, Mr Nawiboon and the others are members of a large drug trafficking organization. Drugs had been ordered from the Golden Triangle several times for delivery to other countries.
It was their plan to smuggle crystal meth to New Zealand, but their plans were thwarted by Narcotics Suppression Police.
