Police Generals Son Crashes Porsche, Killing Motorcyclist

Police in Bangkok have said that a Porsche sports car driven by the son of a former deputy national police chief crashed into a motorcycle killing the rider early Saturday.

Mr. Pornmet Songmetta 29, son of Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, crashed his Porsche Taycan Turbo S into a Yamaha Fino motorcycle driven by Waseem Ahmad near the Taksin Bridge in Bangkok at approximately 1 am. The Taycan new was Bt 11.9 Million.

The 40-year-old motorcyclist a Pakistani refugee later succumbed to his head wounds at Taksin Hospital in Bangkok.

The Porsche driver, Mr. Pornmet sustained head and face injuries from contact with the steering wheel and received treatment at Bangkok’s Suksawat Hospital.

Porsche Taken to Examination

Following his treatment, he called the police and reported that he had made a sudden lane change with his Taycan causing the accident. Mr. Pornmet’s Porsche was also taken to the police station for a forensic examination.

Police are now awaiting the results of his blood test and medical examination. Police are expected to charge him with reckless driving causing death.

Mr. Pornmet, 29, is an executive with Absolute Clean Energy, a company in the SET100 index specializing in renewable energy. His family is one of the largest shareholders of the company.

In November 2019, Forbes magazine estimated Pol Gen Wirachai’s net worth at $585 million.

In October last year, a court overturned Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta’s firing a year earlier for an alleged leak of sensitive recordings.
