Police Arrest Man for Stabbing Woman to Death Over $850.00 Debt

Police report a 39-year-old man was arrested after stabbing a young woman to death at an apartment in Pattaya, Thailand, over a US$850.00 debt. Police armed with a court order issued in Pattaya detained Mr. Watcharaphon Onsongkhram in Sakhon Nakhon province.

On Wednesday, he was returned to Pattaya to face charges.

On Saturday, the body of a woman named only as Rattana, 32, was discovered in a third-floor apartment room in Soi Buakhao in Pattaya township, Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri.

According to authorities, she had 11 stab wounds on her face, neck, and shoulders.

On Wednesday, investigators at Pattaya police station stated the suspect acknowledged to killing the young woman.

During questioning, he allegedly informed police that he had a dispute with her over US$850.00, which he said she owed him. The woman had insulted him and refused to reimburse the money.

He became enraged and covered her lips with his hands before grabbing her by the throat. The woman resisted and bit his hand. They shattered the glass cover of a large picture frame during the struggle. He said that the victim attacked him with a shard of shattered glass.

He replied by stabbing her in the neck and shoulders three or four times with a piece of shattered glass, he alleged, until she fell. He apparently claimed to have been romantically connected with the woman previously. He was arrested and kept in police custody without bail.

In other events, on May 22, police and a firefighting squad were dispatched to the Thongsonthi Transport Company in Samed subdistrict after receiving a complaint that a man had been stabbed and a pickup truck had caught fire.

Officers discovered Samart Kaengparn, 36, with stab wounds to his right arm and shoulder. Samart told police that he was playing with his dog soon before the attack when his wife became enraged and stabbed him with a knife. He left to seek medical attention, but when he returned, he discovered that his wife had set fire to his Nissan Navara pickup truck.

Tik Chumsena, through tears, revealed that the incident was caused by a lack of respect and acknowledgment in their relationship, which resulted in a furious quarrel and physical assault. The police have summoned Samart and Tik for further interrogation and legal action.
