An Outlet Mall Shooting In a Dallas Suburb Leaves 9 People Dead And 7 Injured

(CTN News) – An afternoon shooting at an outlet mall in a Dallas suburb led to the deaths of nine people, including the gunman, and seven injuries, police reported.

A police officer from Allen Police Department heard gunshots at Allen Premium Outlet Mall at 3:36 p.m. during a call unrelated to the incident.

A Saturday night press conference was held by Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey, who said the officer located and “neutralized” the shooter. It appears that the shooter acted alone, he said.

Upon receiving the call, the officer contacted emergency personnel, and the Outlet Mall was eventually secured by a multi-agency response, according to an earlier tweet.

Harvey said the investigation was ongoing and active.

Chief Jonathan Boyd of Allen Fire Department said seven people, including the shooter, were pronounced dead on the scene and nine others were transported to area hospitals. He said two people have since died, three are in critical condition, and four are in stable condition.

A Dallas-area hospital system, Medical City Healthcare, said it was treating eight people aged 5 to 61.

In a video posted on social media, the shooter appears to exit a vehicle on the driver’s side and open fire.

Several police vehicles, an armored truck, and ambulances arrived at the scene. Several people were seen with their hands raised being directed away from the Outlet Mall by police.

He heard gunfire at an H&M store while wearing headphones, Fontayne Payton, 35, told the Associated Press. He said it sounded like it was outside.

Harvey said: “I hope that goes without saying that our deepest sympathies are with the victims’ families.”

“This is a tragedy,” Harvey said. You’ll have a lot of questions. Our hearts go out to those families.”

According to Abbott, he had spoken with Fulk and McCraw at the Texas Department of Public Safety. During this unspeakable tragedy, our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas,” he said, adding that he had “offered the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure that the necessary assistance and resources, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources, are swiftly deployed.”

Congressman Keith Self, whose district includes Collin County, tweeted: “We are devastated by the tragic news of the shootings that occurred at the Allen Premium Outlet Mall today. “We are praying for the victims and their families, as well as the law enforcement officers on the scene,” Self wrote.

In a statement, the White House said President Biden was briefed on the shooting and offered his support to law enforcement and local officials.

It is located about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas and has about 109,000 residents.

A vigil will be held at 5 p.m. at Cottonwood Creek Church in Allen on Sunday.
