Islamic Teacher Shot and Killed by Assailants in Southern Thailand
A respected Islamic teacher was gunned down by a group of assailants while returning home from a mosque in southern Thailand on Sunday.
Pattani Police identified the Islamic teacher as Abdul Mutole Awae of Al Islamiyah Wittaya Foundation School.
The police investigation found that after attending night prayers at the mosque in Kubae Kiyae village in Tamban Dato, Nong Chik district, Pattani he returned to his home in his village.
While on his way home, he stopped to chat and have a cup of tea with a member of the village security team. He left just before midnight. When he neared his home, a group of assailants opened fire, hitting him a number of times in his chest and abdomen.
As a result of Abdul Mutale’s severe injuries, he was rushed to Mae Lan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A police investigation was underway to determine the reason for the killing.
He taught children Islamic lessons in the village before traveling to Sudan to study religion at a university. After his return, he was appointed an Ustaz at the Wittaya Foundation School of Al Islamiyah.
