Chiangrai Times – What began as a fun-filled “Gangnam Style” dance competition in Bangkok, Thailand soon turned into a full-blown gang shootout? Tensions between the two rival gangs have been running high as of late, culminating in a violent confrontation that ended with over 50 shots being fired.

Authorities report that people were in the process of getting served at the Phet Phraram entertainment center when the altercation went down. Police Lieutenant Colonel Apichart Thongchandee told the Bangkok Post that competitors were in the process of displaying their “Gangnam Style” skills when the shootout began. By the time everything was said an done, the rival gangs managed to squeeze off over four dozen shots. Fortunately, nobody was seriously wounded in the fray.

After a little detective work, local authorities have discovered the identity of the culprits. “We now know who all the attackers are. After questioning all the witnesses and inspecting the firearms, we will seek arrest warrants for them,” Thongchandee explained.

If you’re not up on the latest trends, then “Gangnam Style” probably means nothing to you. South Korean rapper Park Jae-Sang, also known as PSY, has quickly become an international superstar thanks to the dance craze inspired by his music video. In the tradition of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” people have taken to filming themselves doing the aforementioned dance, many of which have taken on a life of their own.

PSY recently explained his inspiration for “Gangnam Style” in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “When we made this choreography, we called it ‘horse dance.’ I told [the director], ‘Hey, this is horse dance, so let’s find some horse place,’” he said. “In that way, it can be more cheesy. It can be more ridiculous.”

Fortunately, it would appear that the “Gangnam Style” shootout was an isolated incident. Hopefully the song won’t become what Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” is to karaoke. Are you a fan of PSY’s dance?
