Family Appeal to Get Injured English Teacher Home from Thailand
Despite falling 20 feet from a balcony while working in Thailand, a British English teacher is slowly regaining control over her arms, her sister said. British English teacher Jill Dodds, 47, had been celebrating at an end-of-term Christmas party when the balcony fence she was leaning against gave way.

The fall left the English teacher with severe spinal injuries, leaving her unable to move her arms, wrists, or legs. Another individual broke their collarbone in the accident.

Family and friends are now seeking assistance in getting Ms Dodds home to Morpeth when she is well enough to travel. An update posted on a crowdfunding page by her sister, Katie Breeze, said the next few days would determine how successful the operation would be.

According to her, Jill is being moved into a private room where she will receive 24-hour care. As of recently, she has been experiencing more jolts in her legs, which is a good sign. “She is slowly regaining the use of her arms”.

Long recover time for English teacher

According to Ms Breeze, the following days will determine the success of the operation and how it will go over the coming weeks for the English teacher.

We will be able to determine the best way to get Jill home once we know more. Ms Dodds needs full-time care as she recovers, and nearly £18,000 has been raised on Go Fund Me so far to help her.

The 47-year-old teacher, who has lived in Thailand for six years, uses a straw to drink and needs assistance eating due to her injuries. She underwent an operation where metal rods were inserted into her back in order to relieve some of the pressure on her nerves.

The family has been told that the long-term effects of Ms Dodds’ injuries remain unclear, after being initially told it would take two years for her to walk again.

“I am so sorry to hear about this terrible accident, Jill. “I am thinking of you and hoping for your speedy recovery,” said a well-wisher.

Another added, “As a mother, I can only imagine how desperately your family wants you back. I wish you all the best.”
