Rescue Divers Find the Dead Body of Channel 7 TV Actress

On Saturday, rescue divers found the body of Thai TV actress Nida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong in the Chao Phraya River near the Pibul Songkhram 1 pier, two days after she fell from a speedboat.

The actress’s brother Dayos Detjob, 44, who also joined the search operation, confirmed the body was that of his younger sister. Gratitude was given to all those who worked during the 38-hour search.

Rescue divers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation reported that the body was found floating in the river around 1 pm on Saturday afternoon. Her body was discovered about one kilometre away from where she had fallen off the speedboat on Thursday.

Her body was taken to the pier where Tangmo’s mother Panida Sirayootyotin, 67, was waiting to make a positive identification.

Eakpan Bunluerit, a well-known volunteer rescue worker and actor, also confirmed that the body was that of Nida.

Nida’s body was taken to the Police General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

She was one of six people on the speedboat, which was travelling from the Krung Thon Bridge in Bangkok to the Rama VII Bridge in Nonthaburi. A few minutes after 10 pm, she fell off the speedboat near Pibul Songkhram 1.

The Bangkok Post reports Nida had been sitting on the back of the speedboat before falling off into the river around 10:40 pm. Nida, nor her friends were wearing life jackets.

According to Thai media, the boat’s toilet wasn’t working properly and the actress allegedly was trying to pee off the back of the speedboat.

Her manager allegedly saw her fall and called out for assistance.

Rescuer divers arrived at the scene around midnight Thursday to begin their search.

As the current was strong and it was dark and they said the search was difficult.

On Friday, Nida’s mother attempted to contact her daughter’s personal manager but did not receive a response.

Nida’s associates and the speedboat owner reported to police for questioning at the Nonthaburi police station on Friday night, a day after the incident.

Police are still determining whether alcohol played a significant part in the TV actress’s death.

Authorities are awaiting a toxicology report before possible charges will be put forth to prosecutors. Police are also investigating the speedboat owner and his licences.
