The COVID-19 Omicron epidemic situation in China is grim and complex, making it more difficult to prevent and control, but the overall epidemic situation in China is still under control, according to the National Health Commission on Tuesday. Lei Zhenglong, deputy head of the National Health Commission (NHC)’s Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control, said at a press conference that the mainland has reported more than 15,000 domestically-transmitted cases from March 1 to 14.

It is difficult to prevent and control the current epidemic, according to Lei, since it is complex and grim. COVID-19 is being controlled in an orderly manner in the affected regions, so the overall epidemic situation in China is still under control, Lei said. According to Mi Feng, the spokesperson of the NHC, the stealth Omicron variant spreads faster than other variants in many parts of China. The current dynamic zero-COVID policy has proven to be effective against the Omicron variant.

On Tuesday, Global Times reported 3,507 new domestically-transmitted cases on the Chinese mainland, including 3,076 in Northeast China’s Jilin Province and 1,647 silent cases reported elsewhere. There were 5,154 positive cases in China on a daily basis, a new record. A total of 8,201 patients were hospitalized in COVID-19’s worst-hit province, Jilin, with more than 95 percent having mild cases or silent carriers, the National Health Center reported.

Symptoms of Stealth Omicron:

According to WHO, the Omicron variant affects the upper respiratory tract rather than the lungs. Dizziness and fatigue are among the early symptoms of the omicron variant. Other symptoms begin two to three days after infection.

  • Fever
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Coughing
  • Sore throat
  • Sore head
  • Muscular fatigue
  • Elevated heart rate

One may not experience shortness of breath or loss of taste or smell in the BA.2 variant. According to Zoe Covid’s study of the UK, colds are one of the most commonly reported symptoms of the BA. 2 variant of omicron.
