23-Year-Old Woman Murdered in Her Condo by Neighbour

On Sunday, a 31-year-old man was arrested on charges of attempted rape and the murder of a woman living in the same high-rise condo building in central Thailand.

The body of 23-year-old Inthu-on Korharn was discovered near the elevator door on the seventh floor of the condo complex shortly after 11 pm on Saturday.

She had suffered a stab wound to her thigh which also cut an artery. She had bled profusely as a result of the wound. Her residence is on the same floor.

The entire building, which has ten floors, was locked down by the police. According to an eyewitness account, an individual who lives in the building saw the man run down the fire escape stairs from the building’s seventh floor.

In the early morning hours of Sunday morning, police discovered a blood-stained blue T-shirt in the toilet of an empty room on the fifth floor. The bathroom was wet and the police believed that the woman’s attacker removed her blue shirt, washed it clean. He then allegedly changed into a yellow T-shirt he had stolen from a rack on the third floor of the building.

A knife sheath was also found in the condo bathroom by the police.

In a statement from the police department, a spokesperson said that the suspect was arrested later. He lived in a room on the third floor of the condo, not far from the fire exit steps.

It was reported that the suspect had seen the victim on the ground floor, then returned to his room and changed from a white T-shirt to the blue T-shirt found on the fifth floor.

After entering the victim’s room, the suspect hid in a closet, waiting for her arrival. It was his intention to rape her.

Police investigators believe the woman struggled with the man and he stabbed her once in the thigh. In a panic he fled from her room barefoot, leaving blood-stained footprints in his wake. He ended up in an empty room on the fifth floor.

Investigators believe the suspect had earlier attempted to gain entry to rooms on the eighth floor as well.

The suspect had just gotten out of the shower when the police arrested him in his room. He had a nail scratch on the middle finger of his left hand. Blood was spotted on the bathroom floor, the sink, and on the tap handle.

The suspect allegedly admitted to the crime to the police. He was drunk and sexually frustrated because only 15 days before, his wife had given birth to a child.

In a press release issued on Monday, the police said that the suspect’s name is Nathachai Atsamat, age 31.
