No Foul Play Suspected in Cricket Legend Shane Warne's Death

Police on the Island of Koh Samui said on Saturday there is no evidence of foul play in the death of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.

The 52-year-old cricket legend was found unresponsive at Samujana Villas, which is located on the northeastern tip of the resort island. A heart attack is believed to have caused his death.

After covering the Ashes series for Fox Sports in 2021-22, Warne arrived at the resort on Thursday night with three friends for a week-long vacation.

The champion leg-spinner cricket player posted on Instagram four days ago that he wanted to lose weight in order to get back to his peak physical condition.

The group was scheduled to go out for drinks at 5pm on Friday when Warne’s friend Andrew Neophitou knocked on his door and realized that “something was wrong”.

He entered Warne’s room and found him face down on the bed unresponsive.

He immediately turned him over and started CPR and mouth to mouth, which lasted about 20 minutes and then the ambulance arrived.

A member of the rescue team also performed CPR on Warne when the ambulance arrived. He was then rushed to Samui Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Surat Thani police chief Sup Maj Gen Sathit Pholphinit, investigators examined security video from cameras around the villa and found nothing unusual. Warne’s friends were questioned, but nothing suspicious was discovered.

No bruises could be seen on any part of Warnes’s body. In addition, there were no indications that the room had been disturbed or ransacked.

On Saturday afternoon, the forensic team examined the room and found bloodstains on two spots on the floor and three bath towels and a pillow. Additionally, they found two bottles of drinking water, one empty and the other half-full.

According to Pol Maj Gen Sathit, the body was sent to Surat Thani Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

On Saturday, Australia’s Ambassador to Thailand Allan McKinnon arrived at the island to arrange for the cricket legend’s body to be returned home to his family.

Cricket lovers, celebrities, and politicians have all expressed grief following Warne’s death.
