A 5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Java Island In Indonesia
(CTN NEWS) – JAKARTA – On Thursday, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia’s main island of Java, but no damage was immediately reported, less than a month after another quake in the same province killed more than 300.
There were no early indications of damage.
The earthquake struck at 7:50 a.m. local time (00:50 GMT), around 15 kilometres from Cianjur, the epicentre of the deadly earthquake in November, according to the United States Geological Survey.
It was stated that the likelihood of casualties or property damage was low because the earthquake occurred at a depth of 123 kilometres (76 miles).

The closest city to the epicentre, Cianjur or Sukabumi, had little damage immediately recorded, according to local disaster mitigation agency authorities.
However, a local TV reported that Sukabumi’s schools had been momentarily closed.
A representative of a disaster agency in Cianjur, Wawan Setawan, said: “Since the earthquake’s epicentre was in Sukabumi, Cianjur experienced very little shaking. There are no reports of injuries or property damage.”
Imran Wardhani, a representative from Sukabumi, stated, “We have not yet received reports of earthquake damage.”
In Cianjur last month, a shallow 5.6-magnitude earthquake triggered landslides, collapsed buildings, killed at least 334 people, injured hundreds, and rendered tens of thousands more homeless.
