BANGKOK – A Thai Criminal Court has sentenced a taxi driver Somchai Keawbangyang, 47, to death and his wife to 20 years in prison after finding them guilty in the conspiracy to murder of 79-year-old Japanese teacher Mr Yoshinori Shimato in September 2014.

But both confessed to their crimes against Mr Yoshinori Shimato and had the death sentence commuted to life term.

Mr. Somchai Keawbangyang and wife Pornchanok Chaiyapa, were charged with the murder of Mr Yoshinori Shimato and chopping his body and throwing the pieces into a canal in Bang Bo district of  Samut Prakarn in September 2014.

Mrs Pornchanok was acquitted of the murder charge as her testimony convinced the Court that she did not involve.

She was found guilty only of helping to conceal the body of the victim.
