Over 8000 Monks Ordained Across Thailand in a Nation Wide Mass Ceremony

CHIANG RAI – Mass ordination ceremonies were held across Thailand as part of a merit-making ceremony to honor His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s coronation this weekend.

At Phichaya Yatikaram Worawihan temple in Bangkok, a total of 8,382 men were ordained as monks as a tribute to His Majesty the King.

The mass ordination ceremonies also took place in other provinces on this auspicious occasion.

In Chiang Rai province, 115 men participated in the mass ordination at Buddha Utthayan Doi In See temple in Doi Hang subdistrict, Muang Chiang Rai district.

In neighboring Nan Province, 68 men were ordained at Phra That Chae Haeng temple.

In the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon, 100 men were ordained at Phra That Choeng Chum Worawihan temple. The monks will study and practice the Buddha’s teachings at Si Chompu and Pho Chai temples until May 16, 2019.

In the southern border province of Pattani, a group of 59 soldiers, police officers, security volunteers, civil servants and members of the public joined the mass ordination at Taninornsamoson temple.

In Krabi, crowds of people made merit and observed an ordination ceremony at Maha That Wachiramongkol temple to honor His Majesty the King.

The Mass Ordination for His Majesty the King project is taking place for 14 days, from May 2 to 15, to pay tribute to His Majesty the King and to encourage people to learn and apply Buddha’s teaching in their daily lives.
