More Suspects Held in Nepali Student Kidnapping Case in Bangkok

 

BANGKOK – Thai Police in Bangkok, with the help of call details and other information provided by Nepal Police have arrested four more kidnappers allegedly involved in abducting three Nepali students in Thailand.

According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, Thai Police had arrested the four from different places in Bangkok. Deputy Inspector General, Hemanta Malla, the chief of CIB, said, “Though the mastermind of the kidnapping racket is yet to be arrested, seven suspects have been arrested so far.”

Those arrested recently have been identified as John P and his wife Sarita Bhetuwal, from India, Mustafa and Shafiq, from Bangladesh. Police have also found out that John and Sujan Yadav, who was arrested from Nepal, are brothers-in-law.

CIB on Wednesday arrested Yadav, who is Bagmati bureau secretary of the Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist) on the charge of handling the ransom amount involved. Police believe that John and Bhetuwal were entrusted with collecting the ransom that Yadav would forward from Nepal after receiving the money from the families of the students kidnapped.

The three Nepali students were kidnapped in Thailand on December 19 and were rescued safely through a joint operation involving Thai and Nepali police on December 23.

The three rescued were Karna Hachhethu, a BBA fourth year student, Bibhus Rijal, a fourth year electronic engineering student, and Ronesh Shrestha, a second year hydro-power engineering student.

They are studying at ABAC College of Assumption University in Thailand and were kidnapped by acquaintances on the pretext of taking them to a party at a pub.
The two arrested in Thailand were–Uuaqas Rehman, 22, and Mohammad Jalir, 46, both Pakistan nationals.
