Kerry Delivery Driver Killed After Collision With Freight Train
Local residents who witnessed the incident told police that the delivery driver was traveling at high speed before going through the crossing.
BANGKOK – A delivery driver has been killed after his pickup truck collided with a freight train in central Thailand, early Saturday. The Kerry delivery driver tried to speed ahead of the train at an unmarked railway crossing.
The crash happened at the Ban Thaiyai crossing in Ratchaburi Province at 10.20am on Saturday, said Pol Lt Col Kriangsak Buaphor, reported.
Police and rescue workers found the Kerry Express delivery truck in the grass beside the railway track.
The driver’s side of the pickup truck was crushed and the windscreen broken. The driver, identified later as Jirawat Raknitwet, 37, suffered serious head injuries and died later at Ban Pong Hospital.
Police said Kerry delivery driver was on the way to deliver goods to customers in nearby villages. His pickup truck reached the crossing at the same time as the train.
The train sounded its horn, but the delivery driver went through the crossing and was hit.
The force of the crash threw the pickup truck about 200 meters, the Bangkok Post reported.
Witnessed of the accident told police that the driver was traveling at high speed before going through the crossing. They kept shouting to warn the Kerry driver that the train was approaching, but he did not hear.
