Briton Michael Jones Sentenced to 8 Years in Cambodia for the Purchase of Child Prostitution

PHNOM PENH – Michael Jones, from South Wales was imprisoned in Cambodia after a Phnom Penh municipal court found him guilty of purchase of child prostitution and indecent acts against a minor under 15 years.
The court sentenced him to eight years imprisonment and ordered him to pay £1,450 compensation to his victims.
The investigation into Jones began on 9 April 2013, when he contacted two underage Cambodian girls on the Phnom Penh river front.
One girl later told police a man paid her just £3 for sex, she said she has been abused a total of four times.
APLE said they also witnessed him ‘hugging and kissing’ one girl and ‘grooming’ three other children, filming him buy children gifts, give them money and take one underage girl to a rented room.
APLE have been working with other child-focused NGOs to ensure the safety and well-being of the victims.
