CHIANG RAI – Police in Chiang Rai have arrested the nephew of an elderly man after he killed his uncle Ruang Pannambon in a rage, claiming that he had an affair with his wife.
Ruang Pannambon, 63, was found dead at his home in tambon Mae Chedi of Wang Pa Pao district, said Pol Lt Col Utid Wongwai, an investigator at Mae Chedi police station.
He said a medical team concluded that the man died of oedema resulting from physical assault.
Jamrat Chaiyatat, 33, confessed that he and his wife, Duanchan Glingao, 33, were having dinner with the victim on Sunday.
He said that Ruang was trying to flirt with his wife during the meal. Drunk and in a fit of rage, he strangled the man and repeatedly punched him and also attacked Ms Duanchan.
Mr Jamrat said he took his wife home after accusing her of having an affair with the elderly man, leaving the victim unconscious on a sofa.
He told police that the incident was not the first in which Ruang had tried to flirt with Ms Duanchan. He added that he had hit his wife for letting the man flirt with her.
Pol Col Siriwimol Wisutthikul, superintendent of Mae Chedi police station, said police have charged Mr Jamrat with assault causing death. – BKK Post
