MUMBAI – An Air India employee has died after being sucked into the engine of Air India plane, at Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji airport.
This terrifying incident took place just as the flight 619 was being towed backward in the parking bay.
Sources suggest that, Engineer Ravi Subramanian was standing close to the landing gear under the plane’s nose, supervising the process.
The plane was all set to leave for Hyderabad and the passengers boarded the flight before the deadly incident occurred.
So far, it has been revealed that the staff members were following an irregular engine start-up proceedure as the plane’s auxiliary power unit was not working properly.
It is, however, unclear, how exactly the freak incident occurred in the first place. Air India officials have denied to reveal any further details, as they said the investigation, being conducted by the country’s civil aviation regulator was still on.
Air India Chairman Ashwani Lohani said in a statement that they were all deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident that occurred at the Mumbai airport and offered his condolences to the late engineer, Subramanian’s family.
