CHON BURI – A Thai National previously convicted of attempted murder has been arrest for allegedly raping a 23-year-old Danish tourist in Chonburi province last week.
Police say the man, identified simply as Banleng, was arrested at around 8.30 pm on Friday night and charged with sexual assault.
The suspect denied the charge and said he would contest the allegation in court, police say.
However, Pol.Lt.Gen. Thanate Pinmuang-ngam, commander of 2nd Region Police, said forensic evidence and the victim’s testimony confirm Banleng’s guilt.
According to police records, Banleng was found guilty of attempted murder in 2005 and sentenced to 6 years and 9 months in prison.
Pol.Lt.Gen. Thanate added that the police refused to accept a reward of 100,000 baht offered to the officers by family of the sexually assaulted Danish tourist for solving the case.
