CHIANG RAI – The Ministry of Education has confirmed that its 15-day English boot camp for teachers is not compulsory, as claimed by critics on social media.

Education Minister Dr Teerakiat Jaroensettasin has slammed the information presented on social media as a distortion of the official announcement. He revealed that the ministry has filed a complaint on the basis that the social media posts violated the Computer Crime Act.

According to the minister, the program aims to improve the proficiency and teaching methods of English language instructors through intensive language immersion and training by native speakers. It includes assessments of listening, speaking, reading and writing ability.

Some teachers have opted out of the boot camp program, arguing that the 15-day commitment affords them no time for lesson planning.
