When we are talking about food, we can say we like or dislike something. We can also use the idiom ‘an acquired taste’. Read on to learn more!

‘An acquired taste’ is something that you dislike eating first but you start to like it over time as you eat more.

Cheese can be an acquired taste.

Many say that vegemite is an acquired taste because it takes some time to get used to it.

This idiom can also be used to talk about something that is not food-related.

However, the meaning of the idiom remains the same – not liking something at the first instance but liking it over time.

Not everyone likes the music they hear. It can be an acquired taste.

This book is an acquired taste so I’m not surprised that you didn’t really enjoy the first chapter.
