Monkeypox first infection in a child is reported in Orange County, California
(CTN News) – This week, Orange County health officials confirmed the county’s first case of monkeypox in a child, a rare occurrence as the virus spreads statewide.
Children rarely get, said Orange County’s health officer. Childhood illnesses can cause rashes. Seek medical attention if you or your children have a new or unusual rash.”
At least five other juvenile cases have also been reported in California.
According to state data, only about 2% cases in California are among youth illnesses.
How monkeypox is caused?
As of Wednesday, 126 cases had been confirmed in Orange County.

Monkeypox is also spread by respiratory droplets during close contact, such as kissing, or by items that have come into contact with infectious lesions.
In the United States, has never caused death. Most people recover without treatment, but the skin lesions can be painful. A small number of people have been hospitalized.
In Los Angeles County, the first pediatric monkeypox case was also linked to household members, Long Beach health officials reported earlier this month.
Orange County Health Care Agency declined to comment on how the youth contracted the virus, whether treatment was provided, or whether the child recovered.
Contact tracing and vaccines are being offered to those who may have been exposed to the child, according to Orange County Health Care Agency.
Vaccines are still in limited supply, so widespread vaccination is not recommended.
The two-dose series is mostly offered to men and transgender people.
