Flu Vaccine Gets One Step Closer

(CTN News) – Flu Vaccine against all 20 known influenza virus subtypes has been developed using mRNA. The vaccine has been shown to reduce signs of illness and protect animals from death.

This is even when these animals are exposed to flu viruses that are not related to those used in the Flu Vaccine formulation.

Based on the results of the study, it appears that the vaccine could offer broad protection against all strains of influenza, including the most lethal strains. We could use this tool extremely effectively in the event of a Flu Vaccine pandemic or deaths caused by seasonal flu.

As stated in a statement, the goal of this study is to develop a vaccine that will provide people with a baseline level of immune memory to diverse flu strains, thereby reducing disease and death when the next flu pandemic occurs, according to senior author Dr. Scott Hensley, professor of Microbiology at Perelman School of Medicine.

COVID-19 vaccines have successfully used the same mRNA technology as this vaccine. An inflammatory response is induced by immunogens, which are antigens that stimulate the immune system.

In the RNA, a key (but harmless) flu protein is encoded that is shared by the 18 types of Influenza A viruses and two types of Influenza B viruses.

Once the protein has been injected, cells in the affected area produce this protein and the immune system reacts by producing antibodies against it.

In this manner, the immune system will be able to respond more rapidly to the next flu virus that enters the body. There is no sterilizing effect of the vaccine – it does not prevent you from catching the influenza virus in the future. Instead, it prepares your body to deal with any outbreak of influenza in the event that it does occur.

The vaccine would be comparable to first-generation SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Flu Vaccine, which targeted the original Wuhan strain of Coronavirus, Hensley said.

Despite the fact that these original vaccines were not fully effective against later virus variants such as Omicron, they continue to provide durable protection against severe disease and mortality.”

Human testing is a priority for the team. Clinical trials are now being designed to determine how the Flu Vaccine will behave in humans.

In the event that this vaccine proves to be successful, it may be able to serve as a tool for curbing the spread of flu in all age groups, including children and the elderly.

Hensley believes that the vaccine will significantly reduce the chances of ever experiencing a severe flu infection.

Science has published the findings of the study.

What are the side effects of the flu vaccine 2022?

Common side effects from the flu shot include:
  • Soreness, redness, and/or swelling from the shot.
  • Headache.
  • Fever.
  • Nausea.
  • Muscle aches.
