Florida Syphilis Cases Are On The Rise, According To Data

(CTN News) – Sexually transmitted diseases, including syphilis, have caused an epidemic in the United States.

It has been reported by the Centers for Disease Control that syphilis cases reached their highest level in decades when looking at reported data in 2022, according to data released by the Centers.

Syphilis cases are also on the rise in Florida, as well. Based on data collected by the state health department, it appears that the number of cases in the state more than doubled between 2018 and 2022.

There were 1,830 syphilis cases reported in Orange County in 2022, making it the sixth-highest rate in the state in that year.

Moreover, in the year 2022, there has been a surge in the number of cases of congenital, a condition in which a mother with transmits the disease to her growing child.

It does not matter whether it is primary syphilis,

Which is typically transmitted through sexual contact from one partner to another, or secondary, which is usually manifested as a single painful lesion on a patient’s genitalia.

During his presentation, Rajiv Bahl, a physician specializing in emergency medicine, explained: “There are a lot of ways that syphilis can appear.”

According to him, if this condition is not treated, it can lead to secondary, where a rash can appear on your hands or even on your trunk, or even tertiary, which affects the brain.

In the case of showing signs of any ailment or illness, it is important to recognize the symptoms and contact your doctor or a health expert as soon as possible.

There has been an increase in the number of cases in Central Florida over the past few years, but we have no idea why that is the case,” Bahl said. However, we do know that testing and prevention can help reduce these numbers, and a condition such as this can be very easily treated with the right treatments.
