Thakoon Panichgul is an Thai-American fashion designer who was born in the Chiang Rai Province of Thailand. At the age of 11 years old, Panichgul and his family moved to the United States, where they settled in the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Interestingly, Panichgul launched his career in the fashion industry as a fashion writer. As his interest shift to fashion design, he then formally studied it at Parsons School of Design (2001-2003). Panichgul unveiled his first collection of ready-to-wear fashion in 2004. The popularity of his creations grew quickly. After “Vogue” magazine featured Panichgul, he then produced a fashion line for “The Gap” store. In early 2009, Panichgul also produced a fashion line for Target, which generally received positive reviews from the fashion industry.

In fact, fashion experts have described Panichgul’s fashion designs as “timelessly feminine.” This is certainly one of the hallmarks of Panichgul’s designs. Women shopping for fashions certainly look for those that are feminine. However, not all designers of women’s fashion consistently create clothing that is distinctly feminine. However, that’s definitely one of the characteristics of fashion designs from Thakoon Panichgul.
Fashion experts have noted that Thakoon Panichgul’s designs respect the past’s fashion. Yet they aren’t vintage, and remain distinctly modern. As a result, his creations seem to withstand the test of time-regardless of which season they were available to the public. This differs from the fashion of other designers, whose creations are oftentimes no longer en vogue during the following season.
This is yet another of the key features of fashion designs by Thakoon Panichgul. He’s able to maintain a delicate balance of fashion that’s distinctly feminine, while maintaining a sporty edge. Basically, this provides the wearer with the best of both worlds. It’s this quirky approach to fashion that’s made Panichgul one of the most popular up-and-coming fashion designers in the industry.
Another of the key characteristics of Thakoon Panichgul’s fashion designs is that they borrow from his roots in Thailand, and his life in New York. So while he’s lived the majority of his life in the United States, his Asian roots have also certainly influenced his fashion creations. Unquestionably, Thakoon Panichgul has become one of the most innovative and exciting designers in the fashion industry. It will be thrilling to see what he has in store for the next fashion season.
Panichgul has a talent for blending distinctly different influences into his work, imparting a feminine spirit into a youthful, sporty line. The result is clothing that projects poised elegance with an underlying hint of playful wit.
Thakoon Panichgul showed perfectly modernized minimalism in an earthy palette and a precise, elegant silhouette.
Panichgul is fascinated by decorative ideas that spin out of constructing clothes. Where classic patterns have existed for decades, the nuances for finishing the garments are reexamined. The subtle strokes, he believes, make all the difference. His appreciation for the luxury of the past is a foundation of the collection, which has been described as “forward-looking, respectful of the past, and not at all vintage. In fact, his delicate deconstructions are entirely modern, owing more to the Antwerp Six than to Vionnet. Though his collection might be perfect for a modern Madame de Pompadour, it would suit an L.A. starlet just as well.”
