The event will take place at the flower garden by the Mae Kok River and will run from 23th December to 8th January.
CHIANG RAI – The Tourism Authority of Thailand and tourism agencies have held a press conference on the upcoming 2016 Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival at Chiang Rai’ s old City Hall.
Vice governor Sakchai Wongkanit said on the day that Thai people’s gratitude to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej would be the theme of this year’s festival.
The event will take place at the flower garden by the Mae Kok River and will run from 23th December to 8th January. He added vacationers could rest assured of sufficient facilities during the festival since Chiang Rai boasts around 30,000 standard hotel rooms and beautiful resorts.
Commanding General of the 37th Military Circle Maj. Gen. Bancha Duriyaphan disclosed that the military had strengthened security measures to ensure visitors’ safety. While Chiang Rai Provincial Police have launched an application ‘@ 191 Chiangrai’ offering information on tourist spots and travel routes while also being open to comments and any complaints.
Highlights of the festival include an exhibition of King Rama IX’s development projects, a display of domestic and exotic flowers and a showcase of Buddha relics from Bhutan.
Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya has been invited to preside over the festival’s opening ceremony on 24th December. The event is expected to attract more than one million people.
