The Three Best Gambling Scenes In Movies

Gambling is one of the world’s oldest and most popular recreational activities. There’s also something called gaming, under the umbrella term of gambling –

this refers to gambling activity that has been codified by law in most countries, and is the idea of gambling that most people worldwide are familiar with.

Outside of being a gaming option, gambling also has a bit of glitz and glamour attached to it because of Hollywood.

As is usually the case with Hollywood movies, some of the glamour and high-stakes situations involving gambling scenes are exaggerated, but they make for memorable scenes.

This piece will look at three great gambling scenes in movies.

Casino Royale

Released in 2006, Casino Royale was the first James Bond film starring Daniel Craig. The movie is set around a high-stakes Texas Hold’em poker game organized by Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen.

Le Chiffre is a banker to some of the world’s most dangerous terrorists and criminals, and is hoping to recoup money for a client. He is also a mathematical genius.

There are multiple poker scenes in this movie shared between the steely Le Chiffre and charming 007, with a lot of action taking place in between these scenes.

Bond has to survive assassination attempts through poisoning and more before a thrilling end to the poker game sees him take $115m from the pot in a round that involves a flush, two full houses, and a straight flush in favor of Bond.

The intensity in the eyes of the two characters and the stylish sets add a certain panache to this tense scene that makes it quintessentially Bond.

As far as modern-day poker is concerned, perhaps no other cultural piece warmed as many people to poker as this particular movie did.

Between its release and now, casinos and gambling have become accessible across the world through online channels, and more users are signing up to experience poker and other casino games than ever.

This increased interested has been accelerated by online casinos offering welcome promos such as the BetMGM no deposit bonus codes which lower the barrier for both entry and failure for newcomers – and nothing can be more inviting than having a free second shot at a game.

Casino

There are lots of scenes to choose from in this epic movie. Set in ’70s Las Vegas, the plot follows the travails of ex-mobster turned Casino boss Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein, played by Robert de Niro.

One of the better scenes involves Rothstein going on his inspection rounds before getting a hold of two amateur hustlers.

He delivers mob justice to one of them before delivering this message to his partner in crime: “You can either have the money and the hammer, or you can walk out of here. You can’t have both.”

This is one of the many quotable dialogues in this lurid film. It informs the audience about Rothstein’s past while also displaying his street-like intelligence.

Martin Scorsese is considered one of the greatest living filmmakers, and Casino is one of his greatest works.

Ocean’s 11

The first and perhaps the best film from Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s movies, Ocean’s 11 was a great commercial and critical success in 2001.

With an ensemble cast starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and Matt Damon, this movie sees Clooney’s Danny Ocean attempt a $150 million heist from three of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas.

This is another movie with many great scenes to pick from, but the reunion between Clooney’s Danny Ocean and Pitt’s Rusty Ryan in a poker game is our pick.

Ocean, who has just come out of prison, is on the lookout for Ryan, a conman. Ocean surprises Ryan when he attends a private celebrity poker training session conducted by Ryan.

The two don’t reveal to the other players on the table that they are acquainted. Ryan rabbles on during the round, while Ocean calmly wins it.

The scene displays Ocean’s quiet charisma, Ryan’s need for a new adventure, their mutual admiration for one another, and their brotherly bond. It is a memorable sequence delivered by some of the best actors to grace the Ocean’s franchise.
