Oscars 2022

Oscars 2022: A unique twist to the voting pattern this year is that the members of the Academy won’t be the only ones voting for their favorite films ahead of the 94th Academy Awards. Tweeters will be able to vote on their favorite films released in 2021 regardless of whether they were nominated for an Oscar – using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite.

According to the Academy’s new twist, the film that receives the most votes by March 3 will be acknowledged at the awards broadcast on March 27. Additionally, an academy surprise mentioned that three Twitter users who cast their votes during the period of February 14 to March 3 will be selected – along with their guests – to have an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to present an Oscar award at the following ceremony in 2023.

Oscars 2022 brings a unique twist to voting this year

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Meryl Johnson, VP of digital marketing at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said, “We’re thrilled to partner with Twitter to get people excited and engaged with the ceremony.” Winners will be announced live during the  Oscars 2022 ceremony on March 27. Voting will be open until March 3.

The Academy previously increased the Best Picture category to include up to 10 nominees, instead of the usual five, in an effort to include more mainstream hits in the line-up.

As part of the partnership between the Academy and Twitter, Twitter users will be able to tweet about their favorite scenes from a 2021 film using the hashtag #OscarsCheerMoment. During the Oscars 2022 ceremony, the winning scenes will be shown along with the fan’s tweets, and five users who participated in the campaign. Twitter users will be able to tweet out their submissions up to twenty times a day for the fan-favorite film and cheer moment campaigns. Additionally, The Academy is asking viewers to choose their favorite ‘cheer moment’ from this year’s films. Prizes will be awarded.
