Netflix Raises Pricing

Netflix has increased the prices for subscribers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the streaming service said on Thursday, in an attempt to devote more money to the production of new shows and films.

As a result, the price of Netflix’s popular standard plan, which allows the streaming of videos on two devices at the same time, will rise by 2 pounds every month to 10.99 pounds ($14.48), while users of its basic plan will have to pay 6.99 pounds as opposed to the previous price of 5.99 pounds. It is estimated that the premium plan would cost up to 15.99 pounds ($21.07) a month.

The basic plan in Ireland will be increasing by one euro, while the standard and premium tiers will increase by one euro each to 14.99 euros ($16.58) and 20.99 euros ($23.21), respectively.

According to a Netflix spokesperson, “Our updated prices reflect the investment we have made in our services and catalog, and will allow us to continue to make the series, documentaries and films that our members love as well as invest in talent and the creative industry.”.

The last time the company updated its prices for the UK was in December 2020, and the last time for Ireland was in March 2021.

The new price will start on March 10 for all new members, while existing members will receive an email notification from Netflix 30 days prior to the change going into effect for their specific billing cycle.

The Guardian was the first news outlet to report the news on Thursday.
