Doodle for Google

Doodle for Google 2022: In the past, I used to be the type of person who took pride in making my days as crowded as possible. In addition to checking items off my to-do list, saying yes to everything, and filling my week with social engagements was one of my favorite parts. In addition to living a fast-paced life, productivity was very important to me. However, the spread of the pandemic and the shift to new ways of working and living caused me to reconsider my outlook. To make sure I had time for self-reflection, care, and introspection, I had to rethink the way I structure my days and plan for time set aside for this purpose.

This change is not unique to me. The past few years have been marked by uncertainty, and students, in particular, have seen profound changes in how they learn, how they socialize, and how they approach their health.

In light of that, we thought it would be an appropriate theme for our 14th annual Doodle for Google student contest to focus on self-care. Our theme for the year 2022 is “I care for myself by…”. Students will be invited to share how they nurture themselves in difficult times. How do they make themselves feel better when they’re going through a difficult time? Are there any methods they use to take a break from their work? Is there anything that helps them to feel calm or energized when they’re doing their work? Is there anything or anyone that makes them happy? This year’s theme invites students to share how they take care of their minds, bodies, and spirits in the face of the opportunities and challenges that each new day brings them.

Meet the judges in Doodle for Google 2022

Among this year’s judges is a group of people who are passionate about wellness and self-care. We will use this panel to determine the 54 state and territory winners and the five national finalists, one of whom will gain entry to the national grand prize competition.

The singer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Selena Gomez is a Grammy-nominated artist, entrepreneur, and social activist.  Her personal passion lies in starting conversations about mental health and in 2019, she established The Rare Impact Fund, pledging to raise $100 million for mental health services for individuals living in communities that are underserved. Throughout her life, she has always considered art to be a very important part of her life. It is a great pleasure for me to be a part of this year’s Doodle for Google contest judging panel, since the theme is ‘I care for myself by’, which is a topic of great importance to me. Since I have been an advocate for mental health awareness for many years, I feel hopeful for the future since self-care is becoming a part of our everyday conversations.

In addition to her role as a director, model and mental health advocate, Elyse Fox also serves as a judge. As a member of the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council, she is also a founder of Sad Girls Club, a nonprofit dedicated to destigmatizing mental wellness among millennials and Gen Z women, as well as girls and women of color. In light of the current state of the world today, this year’s theme, “I care for myself by,” is especially relevant. “I love the theme because sometimes people are hesitant to take care of themselves, but I think in the long run it is necessary for us to prioritize ourselves so that we can be the best version of ourselves.”

The final judge of the contest, Juliana Urtubey, was named the 2021 National Teacher of the Year, and she currently serves as a special education co-teacher at Kermit Booker Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In her career, she has advocated for joyous and just education for all, and she has always placed community-oriented wellbeing at the heart of her quest for a better future.  She says self-reflection and connecting with the people in my community are among the ways in which she cares for herself. In order to know yourself and understand how and why you process certain emotions is influenced by where you come from, and I feel grounded and centered as a member of my collective community. We always talk about our emotions in a context of the community and our relationships with families, friends and other members of our community have a major impact on our health and well-being, so it becomes a part of my teaching process that they acknowledge and regulate their emotions.

Let’s get started!

Students can enter the 2022 Doodle for Google contest if they are based in United States of America, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the   Commonwealth of the Virgin Islands until March 4, 2018. Visit our contest web page to learn more about how to enter the contest, resources for educators and parents, as well as the rules of the contest. As a result of winning the Google Art Contest, the winner’s work will be displayed on the Google homepage for a day, and they will receive a scholarship of $30,000 as well as a $50,000 technology grant for their school as a result. It will be exciting to see what the students come up with.
